Good Winter

With the power of the double bass drum and the intensity of the lyrics smashing you in the face like hail stones. Perth, the introduction of Bon Iver's self titled album opens you to  some excursions that will pull on your heart strings.

Whilst the album progresses through to Minnesota, WI, leaving behind which once was the end of the track, Perth. It takes you through an energetic side of Bon Iver that has the heavy bass to give you that raw power that complements Justin Vernon's soft voice.

In comparison to there previous album For Emma, Forever Ago, Where most tracks consisted of simple, yet effective guitar and slight brushing of the snare drum. These first seven minutes of intensity give the impression that with those "simple" chords and harmonizing voices, an involvement of more instruments such as tenor saxophones, french horns and piccolo trumpets.

Proves that with 12 people involved, there not messing around.

Not only has the music progressed to outstanding results, The lyrics of Justin Vernon have become more intriguing than ever.

from there final track Beth/Rest. which is completely out of sink with the rest of the album, except Calgary i feel ( very 80's), it starts with "Errant heat to the star and the rain let in, the hawser rolls, the vessel’s whole and Christ, it’s thin ". It leaves you thinking where was he at this point to give such vivid imagination something that most people never experience.

As Bon iver progress like there albums have so obviously shown, the future keeps us optimistic on future releases from a band that not everyone knows about, i mean.. radio 1 playing a 14 year old girls cover of skinny love, and non listeners of Bon Iver thinking its the most beautiful thing they have ever heard? two things..not her song, not as good.

GARAGE BAND TAKEN LITERAL

For a band that has constantly had its raw and distinguished sound, going back to the authenticity of bedroom recordings is possibly the most defining moment in there career and possibly the source of changes in modern music.


Dave Grohl and the other gentlemen that are Foo Fighters, have recorded there latest album, due for release spring of this year,  In the garage of the Grohl household.


After seeing the list of artists for sound of 2011, there are a minimum that don't use a computerized sound created from there latest imac purchased...by there parents. so creating this home recording of every whisper and twang of the string brings back that sense of creativity through an instrument that has been taken away from us through the recent years.


Don't get me wrong some of my favourite bands and artists are digital DJ's, but its refreshing to feel as if you are a part of this creation and your the only person to hear it. 


Artists constantly look for this perfect sound, its a bit like your local boy racer, "jason" pumping up his speakers to 11 for that perfect babe magnet of a sound.. pouring out of his ford Ka, good effort..but that is the market these days, people have forgotten what real music sounds like and that the imperfections are sometimes the best bits.


Im personally excited for this album to be released, knowing that they have spent there time producing this album in, i assume a garage with beer fridges and other essential man stuff makes me have faith in music again. the love of the sound is still there.
